![]() They are the masters of conventional tactics. This draws parallels between themselves and the Roman Empire, which fought in a similar manner (Knighton). The English can hold the line and fight in groups. They are well-equipped, as all of their soldiers possess armor and helmets. They love an open-field battle, where their superior archers and cavalry can win the day. The English are uniform, disciplined, organized. The movie plays on contrasts between two fighting forces. Mel Gibson did a great job at portraying battles and combining different types of soldiers together in a way that does not make armies look like incoherent mobs. Braveheart delivers just what the posters and trailers promised – gritty medieval large-scale battles, involving foot soldiers, archers, and cavalry. No, they came to watch the movie to see Mel Gibson fight giant battles and swinging that two-handed sword. The majority of moviegoers did not go to watch the movie because they were interested in the intricate and elaborate politics of 13th-century Scotland. One of the strongest points in Braveheart is the battle scenes. ![]() Even during his last scenes, when he is drawn and quartered, he shouts out “Freedom!” which became an iconic line of the movie, sowing fear in the English and creating a long-standing memory in Robert’s son, who was later inspired by the memory of William Wallace to betray the English and conquer freedom for its people (“Braveheart”). Only the treachery of Lochlan, Mornay, and later Robert the Bruce help defeat Wallace (“Braveheart”). He would stop at nothing to defeat Wallace, especially after the battle of Stirling, which results in the British army being crushed, and the city of York burned to the ground. While William Wallace rules the battle scenes, Longshanks dominates the stage with his Machiavellian view of the world, dry wit, and refined cruelty. Wallace joins the rebellion after the English soldiers execute his wife for resisting their attempts to rape her.īraveheart is built around sequences of battles with scheming and politics in between. King Edward was a cruel king, who offended not only the Scottish people but their noblemen as well by granting lands to his lords and enabling various offensive laws and regulations, such as the “First Night” privilege, where the ruler of a fief would be granted the right to bed any bride before the wedding (“Braveheart”). The motivations of Wallace, as well as his supporters, are just and noble. The movie follows the tale of William Wallace – a freedom fighter who rose to liberate Scotland from the rule of King Edward “Longshanks” following the death of the king of Scotland, who died without leaving an heir. Despite being considered old by modern standards of cinema and having certain flaws and loops in the storyline and historical accuracy, Braveheart can easily be considered one of the best movies of all time, enjoyable even by the modern standards of cinema in 2018. With such a stunning and impressive list of features, it can truly be considered an all-time classic. It was truly ahead of its time, having not only scored over 210 million dollars in the box office, but also winning five academy awards: for the best picture, director, cinematography, makeup, and sound editing (“Braveheart – Awards”). An iconic movie with Mel Gibson portraying William Wallace – a charismatic and cunning leader of the Scottish rebels, provides great entertainment value even 23 years after being first released into movie theaters across the world. Everybody has seen Braveheart (1995) or at least heard of it.

These are the overuse of the passive voice and too many adverbs. It is a simple and efficient way to find the two most common errors and writing flaws. The best feature of the Hemingway editor is that it accepts a huge word count without a problem and processes the text very quickly. When writing blog posts or content articles, it is always good practice to keep adverbs and passive sentences to an absolute minimum. It is a quick, free, and easy way to help you rid your text of most occurrences. It is also extremely good at finding and highlighting adverbs, which Stephen King calls weeds. So I am not sure the app notes a lot of difference between hard and very hard-to-read sentences.īut it is a useful tool to help find long sentences quickly that might hinder reading clarity.īy far, the best use for the app is locating passive voice phrases so you can replace them with the active voice. The number of sentences noted in my test as very hard by the app was often similar to those classed as difficult to read. God of War: Ragnarok doesn't have the scale of Elden Ring, but this is still a large video game. ![]() Sony Ragnarok is the biggest God of War ever Sindri is one of the familiar faces you'll be happy to see again. Players new to the franchise will still have a fabulous time but may find themselves scratching their heads at some exchanges. Between the original trilogy and the Norse realms, there's a lot of lore to parse through here. Mimir and Atreus will often chat about past events, and it can be hard to tell if Ragnarok is feeding you pure lore or if it's a story element from the previous game you're meant to remember. Ragnarok's biggest talkers are Mimir and Atreus - Kratos is more of a one-liner guy. When on-screen characters sigh about " another locked door," it's a red flag. Broadly speaking, this works well, but there are a few conspicuous instances where quests feel artificially extended to give characters time to catch up. Essential story points are often communicated in this manner. Sometimes this is just banter, other times it fills in Ragnarok's considerable lore. There's limited fast travel in Ragnarok, and much of the time it takes to get between Point A and Point B is filled by chatter between characters. Rather than world killer, Odin is portrayed more compellingly as a devilish charmer, while Thor's spectacular brutality is hard not to admire. Sindri and Brok, the blacksmith dwarves, remain endearing. His affectionate dialogue with Kratos and Atreus actually makes the trio feel like family. Mimir, the talking head that dangles on Kratos' waistband, calls Kratos "brotha" at every turn, but that doesn't feel confected. Though there are new standouts, like the posh squirrel Ratatoskr who maintains the world tree, highlights mostly include faces from the first game. While many games of this size feature dozens of interchangeable NPCs, Ragnarok does an admirable job of maintaining a relatively tight cast of likable characters. ![]() In spite of his terse, ferocious nature, the vulnerability Kratos shows adds emotional depth to his character - further cementing him as an all-time great. It is hoped that the exhibit will encourage others to use the Platonic solids as a way to introduce in a very concrete way some abstract mathematical concepts, and perhaps it will also encourage others to create 3D textbooks for other topics in mathematics. The beauty of the sculptures gives a fitting expression to the beauty of the mathematical ideas – a bridge between sculpture and mathematics. So, this “textbook” gives a systematic development of geometric ideas, but does so through a series of more than thirty 3D sculptures with explanatory signs. However, three-dimensional geometry is most effectively presented in three dimensions. A geometry textbook typically develops the ideas with text and two-dimensional drawings. The richness of ideas found in the Platonic solids gives a wonderful example of the beauty to be found in mathematical thought. ![]() ![]() Free GitHub accounts are commonly used to host open-source projects.
